Description
We are looking for a Lead Database Developer to join a friendly data science company based in South London. This is a multi-faceted role, requiring the successful Lead Developer to work across a variety of SCV (Single Customer View) databases, all built using MS SQL Server technology, to provide technical leadership in the on-going maintenance of solutions, lead new development projects and provide technical direction in building out a new, Azure based data platform.
The ideal candidate will have previous experience of working on migration projects, specifically taking large data sets from an on-premise environment into the cloud. You will be passionate about Microsoft database technologies, be highly skilled in SQL Server, SSIS, SSAS and SSRS and have a genuine interest in visualisation tools such as PowerBI, Tableau and Qlikview. We need you to be a technical wizard with MS databases whilst having the necessary interpersonal skills required to lead a team of motivated developers.
Responsibilities:
- Review and improve standard documentation to follow best practice and industry standards.
- Act as a technical lead and ensure all development is appropriate, to spec and developed following best practice
- Ensure all code changes are managed through the team’s code management system
- Ensure that code is appropriately tested.
- Take an active role in eliciting, understanding and documenting user requirements through the facilitation and/or attendance of workshops, meetings and calls.
- Understand the organisation's needs and help transfer them to IT road maps and strategic plans.
- Explain plans to designers and developers
We are looking for the successful Lead Database Developer to be comfortable performing both hands on development work across the MS SQL Server stack whilst also being able to provide technical leadership of a friendly, motivated team of developers. Specifically, we require:
- Experience of Microsoft BI Stack (on-premise and cloud).
- Experience of Azure for analytics, desirable AWS or/and GCP.
- Experience of relational and Data warehouse design methodologies.
- Experience of visualisation/specialist analytical tools & technologies such as Power BI, Tableau, Qlikview
- Experience of data integrations including web services, SOAP and RESTful APIs
- A sound understanding and application of development principles and coding standards

Skills
Experience of Microsoft BI Stack (on-premise and cloud).
Experience of Azure for analytics, desirable AWS or/and GCP.
Experience of relational and Data warehouse design methodologies.
The ability to speak confidently on technical subjects with limited preparation commanding respect and authority.
Demonstrable knowledge of a software development methodology and structured approaches to development.
Education Requirements
Ideally educated to degree level in a Computer Science related subject.
